The Sunshine Coast Art Prize

Caloundra Regional Gallery
22 Omrah Avenue, Caloundra, Queensland

The Sunshine Coast Art Prize is entering its sixth consecutive year. Each year the prize has become more sought after and prestigious, earning national acclaim for its annual representation of contemporary Australian art. It is one of the richest acquisition prizes in Australia with the winner receiving a $20,000 cash and residency prize. As with previous years forty finalists will be selected to exhibit. As well as the substantial incentive of a $15,000 cash prize, a four-week residency in the Sunshine Coast hinterland is included in the prize. The residency is an important component of the prize as it not only provides a fantastic opportunity to work in a unique environment but also offers the Sunshine Coast community an insight into the artist’s work.

Noosa Stone Sculpture Bequest

Noosa Botanic Gardens
Lake Macdonald Drive, Cooroy, Queensland

The beautiful Noosa Botanic Gardens is the recipient of a $200,000 bequest made possible by an anonymous local philanthropist. A series of stone sculptures will eventually establish a sculptural walk through the gardens as biennially the bequest awards a new sculptor. The bequest will enable the winning sculptor the opportunity to travel and study for two months at a studio in Carrara, Italy – famous for its marble since the time of Ancient Rome. Following the residency the artist will return to Australia to complete their own stone sculpture.

It is expected that the bequest will increase the local and national profile of the Noosa Botanic Gardens as an arts venue and enhance the visitor experience to the gardens and beyond. The gardens are located at Lake Macdonald Drive, Cooroy, and are open every day.
